What A Shite Month

Well, it's my first week back cycling after a complete month of suffering the dreaded lurgy. I've had some short 45-minute trips so far to try and ease myself in again, I wasn't sure if the cough might return but it all went ok. Last time I obversely returned to cycling far too soon and was told off by my local doctor before spending a few days under a quilt with a rattling chest and stupid cough that never seemed to ease up.

Yesterday was a lovely fresh morning and the fens were full of sunshine and boy was I glad to be out there putting in the miles again. For the last three weeks I've felt terribly unfit and fat, as my grandfather would say; "the fat sticks to us all in winter boy" and I've gained a stone in eight since Christmas, only to be expected I guess having a whole month being unable to even go walking. But now fingers crossed that's all in the past and I'll soon get back to my target weight ready to push forward in spring and summer because this summer I will reach my aim of weighing under 20 stone, something that I haven't done for around 25 years.
I wish I could explain just how good it feels to be back out cycling the fens because to be very honest, at one point I thought I'd never be able to.

  1. So glad that you are feeling well enough to start your cycling once again - not very nice to be laid low with a bad chest. Hope fully you'll be clocking up the miles on your bike and later in the year hitting the weight goal that you have set yourself
